BespokeGun recoil system: shot kinematics, linear movement without parasitic motions, modular architecture, and how it differs from conventional solutions

A year ago, together with the sport shooters, we had the idea to make our own rollback system. During this time, we have developed several prototypes, conducted a series of tests and accumulated practical data. And before we show you our rollback system, we would like to tell you about it - what distinguishes it from analogues, what are its advantages and who it is suitable for.

Constructively set kinematics of a shot

Constructively set kinematics of a shot
When firing, the rifle begins to move before the bullet leaves the barrel. It is at this point that the main error occurs: the position of the weapon changes, the support conditions vary each time, and the repeatability of the series is disrupted. Typically, this issue is addressed by the shooter through grip, hold, and technique. However, the BespokeGun recoil system takes a different approach: the behavior of the rifle should be determined by the design rather than the individual.

Recoil is not a side effect of a shot. It is a mechanical movement that can be controlled through geometry.

The recoil system's objective is to ensure a strictly linear movement of the rifle along the axis of the barrel without any rotational movements. Fluctuations, skewing, and lateral yaw are considered to be a result of incorrect kinematics rather than an inherent characteristic of firing. If the weapon does not move in a straight line, it is a design flaw rather than a shooting feature.

Why does the "shot error" occur?

Each shot occurs in new conditions. Even with the same aiming, the geometry of the system at the moment of the shot differs: the angle, the point of contact and the nature of the return to the line of sight change. The recoil system solves exactly this problem - it does not stabilize the weapon, but makes the movement predictable.

The principle of operation of the BespokeGun recoil system

The entire scheme is built as a kinematic system with a separation of functions:

The front support sets the basic geometry and fixes the initial position.
The rear support accompanies the movement and maintains the trajectory.
The shooter does not participate in the control of the recoil.
The weapon should not be “held” during firing, but rather move along a predetermined line.

Any parasitic movements, such as vertical, lateral, or rotational movements, are eliminated by the geometry of the components, rather than by the shooter's technique.

Why are elastic elements excluded?

Springs, rubber and dampers accumulate energy and return it in different ways. This makes the recoil non-repeatable: each shot has a slightly different character of movement.

Therefore, in the recoil system:

there are no damping materials,
there are no elements that work as a shock absorber,
there is no need to "catch" the rifle.

The recoil should not be suppressed, but controlled.

Modular architecture

The system is built as a set of independent nodes.

Each element performs a specific mechanical function and can be used separately.
The main groups of modules include:
the front support medium (mat-bag, front support module);
the bipod nodes and support elements (ski, tips, base extension);
rigidly fixed attachment interfaces;
forward support point;
rifle linear movement module;
rear support ski and rear support medium.

Modularity allows you to implement the system in stages and customize the geometry for a specific rifle and shooting conditions without having to modify the existing equipment.

How does the BespokeGun system differ from conventional solutions?

Typically, accuracy is achieved through:

the shooter's skill,
the firmness of the grip, and
damping.

However, the BespokeGun approach is different: accuracy is ensured by the repeatability of the shooting mechanics. The shooter is responsible for aiming. The design is responsible for the weapon's behavior.

The BespokeGun recoil system is a design-based kinematic scheme that ensures a linear and repeatable movement of the rifle during firing along the axis of the barrel. The recoil is not suppressed or compensated. It occurs along a predetermined trajectory and does not depend on the shooter's actions.

In upcoming publications, we will show real system configurations, module compatibility, and examples of operation on various rifles.
